Don’t let anyone stop you from expressing your ideas. Why? Because good ideas can change the world…whether they are accepted at first or not.

This is a tale about a shot down idea of mine…

A few weeks ago I contacted the people at Shazam regarding an idea I had.  I randomly thought of it one night and had mentioned it to my friends and they really loved it.  So, I figured I’d share it with the makers of the program that could run it.

I emailed them with a basic inquiry, “hey I have an idea I’d love to present you guys on how to tap a new market for Shazam.”

They responded a few days later with the following:

Thanks for your interest in Shazam.

Sadly we are very focused on our core activities right now and are not in a position to consider new markets.

Thanks for thinking of us.

I was kind of shocked when I got their email, because its like them saying “Nope, sorry. We’ve got too much money already.”  But it is quite possible that they have inquiries daily about ideas.

But anyways… bigons.  It’s a truly great app, so I’ll post my idea here anyways in case they ever feel like using it.

When I’m out and I hear a great song playing in the background, it’s instinctual for me to whip out my iPhone and Shazam it.  It’s just such a great app. I usually buy the song via iTunes right then and there, or wait until I get home to download it.  Now that I’m a budding classical guitar player, I hear so much more music that I want to not only listen to, but try to play.  So that’s where Shazam for musicians comes in. Whether it be a simple plugin or a new version of the app altogether, it would be a really great thing.

Maybe they could work with Ultimate Guitar Tabs (check it out here) or a web version like Ultimate Guitar (check that out here).

If you’re looking for a specific type of music:

Mall – good mainstream music

Starbucks – classic old school music or new emerging artists

Second Cup – mainstream world music

Mechanics – old rock classics

Now i’m sure I could have found a more persuasive way to have gotten this idea to Shazam, but I’m a busy lady, so this will have to do.  I just wanted to let it loose into the world, whether it takes off or not. Don’t let anyone ever stop you from doing the right thing.
