Does the sun stunt tree growth? http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1380385

According to a  recent study by scientists, tree growth is directly related to the cosmos *insert wacky space sounds here.*

How’d they figure that out? Well, they studied the growth rings of a spruce tree over the span of half a century.  That’s right folks, all the way from 1953 to 2006. Continue reading “Tree Growth Stunted by Sun Rays?” »

China is attempting to eradicate drunk drivers once and for all from the streets of its capital city Beijing, with a proposed charge that would include both the driver and passengers.
The proposal law by China’s Ministry of Public Security would see typical charges against the drunk driver, but it would also include fines (amount not stated) against the passengers in the vehicle.
The plan follows a two-month crackdown on drunk driving that included road blocks, heftier fines, 15-day jail terms and six-month license suspensions.
In one case, a 30-year-old man was sentenced to death after killing four people in an accident in southwestern Chengdu – reportedly the first time China issued the death penalty in a drunk-driving case. The sentence was later reduced to life in prison.
Current laws in Beijing consider a driver drunk if their blood alcohol level is at or above 0.02, or 20 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. Compare that to the U.S. limit of .08, making almost any alcohol consumption by a driver in Beijingillegal.
This is a growing problem in China with beer being extremely cheap and available in nearly every local corner store.  Match that with the fact business deals usually take place in some swanky restaurant over an exuburant amount of alcohol, and you’ve got a problem.

Five Toe Running Shoes

On 09/11/2009, in Randomness, Technology & Gadgets, by ChickTech
Are you a crazy person who likes getting attention by wearing stupid things? You’ll probably love these shoes then. These things are a mix between those cheap sandles we all use to have with the two velcro straps and Crocs (I effin hate Crocs).
Yes these shoes are perfect for your toe socks and apparently are good for your feet….but they’re just butt ugly.
They’d be a good joke gift….if you’re willing to shell out $145 + shipping.
Check out the official site here, but be warned, if you purhcase these for non-joke related purposes, you lose all respect gained.

And they say every girl who games is fat… An ironic study proves otherwise.
A study done by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), reveals that women video gamers were generally depressed, while men were found to be more overweight than their non-gamer counterparts. For any female gamer who has ever been ridiculed and called ‘fat’, this might cause some smug satisfaction. Albeit a ‘depressed’ one.
Despite the study being restrained to the United States and a small sample group, I believe it truly reflects a higher rate of obesity and depression in the gaming population versus a non-gaming population. That being said it does not necessarily mean that it is a HIGH rate of depression and obesity.
It DOES however mean that the female gaming population is not any fatter than the non-gaming community and it disproves the stereotype that all female gamers are overweight. In fact it suggests we are lighter than our fellow male gamers and that we are the ones that are in a position to ‘poke fun’. To me, this is old news.. And now I have science backing me up.

How epic is this image! Whether you give a rats ass about space or anything related to the universe, this is ‘life’ at its best. It’s beautiful, angry and the unknown.
This ‘thing’ is called a planetary nebula NGC 6302. Though its nicknamed Bug Nebula and the Butterfly Nebula for us simpletons *yee haw*.  So what is it?  It’s basically a dying star.  The “wings” are as far as 2 light-years across. They’re made of gas heated to more than 9,900 celsius. It’s also tearing through space at over 600,000 miles an hour.  Put all this together you’ve got one pissed off flame / natural rocket.
According to the NASA website, if it were to travel from the earth to the moon, it would only take 24 minutes. Crazy!
I’m no scientist, and what i learned in school is basically gone, so I’ll leave you with a link to the professionals, here.http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/hubble/multimedia/ero/ero_ngc6302.html
